JUMPSTART JAZZ
A BENEFIT CONCERT FOR PADS CRISIS SERVICES

Jazz has a long, rich history.  Part of that history in the early 20th century included the rent party phenomenon. Musicians would gather together, play music, and raise money to help families pay the rent. In keeping with this tradition, young and young-at-heart musicians, song writers, and vocalists will showcase their talent at the Second Annual Jumpstart Jazz concert, a benefit for PADS (Providing Advocacy, Dignity and Shelter) Crisis Services. The performances will take place at

 North Shore Unitarian Church
www.nsuc.org
 Saturday, January 10, 2009
beginning at 7PM.
The suggested donation is $10 with all funds going to PADS.

Performers include:
•    Vocalist Amanda Nach, a junior at Maine West High School. Amanda has loved music since she started performing in community theater. Her stage credits include Grease (Rizzo), Guys and Dolls (Sarah Brown), Meet Me in St. Louis, and many others. She sings in her school’s Chamber Choir.
•    Pianist Dan Pierson and Friends.  Dan is a freshman at University of Illinois, Champaign (formerly from Libertyville High School).
•    Patrick Girdaukas, senior at Libertyville High School, on tenor sax with Ben Paulson, junior at Libertyville High School, on drums; Brandon Hunt, senior at Libertyville High School, on guitar.
•    The Deerfield Transfer, including Marcia Bernstein, Dawn Frase, Tim Dirsmith, and Dave Napalo, with collaborators Judy Schad and Wayland Rogers at piano keyboard.
•    The Message Ensemble, with Tom Bowling on violin, Eric Van Duynes on guitar, Ken Hall on vibes, Jeff Lackie on drums, Dave Huber on bass.

Steve Howard will serve as Master of Ceremonies; Cedric Lee, Director of Community Outreach for PADS, will talk. A raffle will be held. Hot cider and homemade baked goods will be served to guests.

These musicians are donating their time and talents on behalf of PADS.  PADS provides emergency shelter and supportive services to individuals and families with children experiencing homelessness in Lake County. As the only non-restrictive nighttime emergency shelter program in Lake County, PADS shelter sites are housed in 14 different churches every night of the week on a seasonal basis (October 1st through April 30th). PADS also has one year-round fixed site emergency shelter in Waukegan. Staff and volunteers provide dinner, breakfast and a bag lunch to these families.
